The Famke Jewellery Care Guide

A helpful guide to keeping your pieces looking their best!

Our Materials

We use precious metals like Sterling Silver and 9ct Solid Gold. These materials are hypoallergenic, timeless and easy to refresh with the right care!

When it comes to silver and plated jewellery, tarnishing is natural and it does not mean your piece is damaged, and the Famke Jewellery Cleaner is specially formulated to gently remove the black build-up that can appear over time, restoring your jewellery's original shine.

Please Note: the Jewellery Cleaner does not restore plating that has faded.

Let’s Talk Tarnishing

Tarnish is a natural process that affects most metals, even fine ones! It can show up as everyday dullness, or as green and black marks on the surface.

Factors like humidity, skincare products, salt in the air or even your skin’s pH can all speed it up.

The good news? Tarnish is reversible with gentle care, and our Jewellery Cleaner makes it easy to restore your pieces.

Understanding Gold Plating

With plated jewellery, a thin layer of gold is applied over sterling silver. Over time, this layer will naturally begin to wear - especially with regular wear, exposure to water, friction or skincare products. This is a normal part of owning plated jewellery, and not a fault.

Our Jewellery Cleaner is designed to gently remove build-up and maintain the shine of your piece, but it won’t restore worn-off plating.

To prolong the life of your plated jewellery, we recommend removing it before showering, swimming or applying products.
